A half-day the one just played in the Brasilerao. Half-day because the championship leader, Botafogo and some of the teams close on its heels, starting with Corinthians, were unable to play because their matches were scheduled in a Rio de Janeiro that is preparing for the Pan American Games. The prestige victory of the day went to Sao Paulo, which beat Santos 2-0 at Vila Belmiro. Both teams have players engaged in the Copa America in Venezuela (Alex Dias, for Sao Paulo and Maldonado for Pelé’s former team) and what is more the Luxemburgo squad lost Zé Roberto, who returned to Europe to sign up with Bayern Munich.
A great win for Gremio in the Porto Alegre “derby” against Inter – at the Beira Rio stadium – and here too, star players Alexandre Pato and Lucas were absent, being engaged in the preparations for the under-20 world championship to be played in Canada. The other “classic” of the day was played at Belo Horizonte, between Cruzeiro and Atletico Mineiro and exciting moments were not lacking here either: the former were in front, 2-0 when they were caught up by Galo before scoring another two goals to win 4-2.
Palmeiras is still passing through a bad period and lost at home to Atlético Paranaense, while another away win, at Recife, against Nautico, put Goias up among the championship leaders, along with Parana, which beat Sport. Bottom position for America, beaten by Fluminense at Natal.

In third place is the Kia Rondo. It has more utility, space and flexibility than anything else here. It is also the most affordable. The seven seat configuration holds the advertised number of riders no, not for a long trip. With the third row flat, it swallows a family of four's luggage with ease. The 2.7 litre V6 delivers the power needed to tote the passengers without bogging down, and it handles predictably understeer and body roll are surprisingly well controlled. The Dodge Avenger earns an honourable mention as it brings spirited handling and creditable performance. It missed the boat by the smallest of margins. The Honda Accord EX plays bridesmaid. I like the new found size, especially the bit allotted to the rear seat it is now limo like in its proportions. However, the handling moves from the old car's crisp to something best...

The Saturday morning free practice session was held on a damp but drying track, the kind of conditions that a contemporary F1 car most dislikes. Sutil, in his first season in F1, was driving for the Spyker team, a plucky but understaffed and under funded outfit whose cars usually brought up the rear in qualifying. But at the end of that challenging session, in which many of the most talented drivers in the sport lost control of their cars, Sutil was at the head of the time sheets, and the pit lane echoed to the sound of dropping jaws. His pre eminence was brief, because normal service was resumed on a dry track for the qualifying shoot out, but the 24 year old had registered on the radar of all the watching team managers. "I have always been very successful at Monaco, I love it there," Sutil said. "In the wet you can sometimes do something a bit better than your car would normally allow. I was not taking any crazy risks, but somehow I put...
